Sidney Bechet
BD JAZZ
The biography of Sidney Bechet by Alain Gerber , illustrated by Julie Faulques and accompanied by 2 compact discs.
A flamboyant quality emerges from Sidney Bechet 's soprano saxophone playing which makes the autodidact from New Orleans a unique case in the history of jazz . And if its “ French ” period, mentioned in CD 1 , has rightly left lasting memories in our national memory, it must above all not obscure the authentic masterpieces that this phenomenon had recorded some ten years earlier in company of his friends from across the Atlantic ( CD 2 ). Likewise, the immediate seduction of the sound of his saxophone will not make us forget the deep emotion distilled by the accents of his clarinet in certain sides of CD 2.
