Jean Ferrat

Jean Ferrat wrote more than two hundred songs, some of which have attracted renowned performers. Rich and strong textually, his work remains classic in its musical form, combining the beautiful melodies and lyrical arrangements of Alain Goraguer .

An ardent defender of French song , Ferrat alternates between sentimental, poetic and committed refrains. Faithful to communist ideals , he nevertheless retained his independence from the Party , while giving a large audience to his leading poets like Louis Aragon . Ferrat inaugurated the era of popular singers who commented on political life and attempted to shape opinion.
